Thanks LHW99! That's similar in content/level of credibility to the British Museum link I posted above... and although it matches what we think/know is right (and what you're all kindly saying too) it's not official enough for my solicitor, or RSA/Phoenix to take as conclusive proof!  Still, I hadn't seen this particularly link before, so thank you :-)

Royal and Sun Alliance Inurance plc is registered at Companies House with company registration no. 00093792:
    https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00093792/filing-history?page=16

On the page I've linked, go to the document from 19 June 1907 to see the incorpation document for Royal Insurance Company Limited, also with company registration no.  93792

They are one and the same company.
eg the document from Jan 1982 changed the name to Royal Inurance plc
The subsequent name change happened with effect from 1 November 1997.

Oh gosh @sandsy - I daren’t get my hopes up, but this looks like just what we’ve been hoping for! I’ve emailed it across to my solicitor so that he can have a look in the morning. I’ll let you know, but thank you SO much. If this turns out to be what we need, this is fantastic. Fingers crossed! Thank you!

Gosh @xylophone you’ve been doing some digging! Thank you SO much. And the great thing is that this either tallies, or fills in some of the gaps, with the other info we’ve been gathering. Along with the promising looking info that Sandsy has shared, I’m letting myself get tentatively hopeful that this might well be what we need. Please keep your fingers crossed for us! I’ll be back to report how it’s gone... Thank you!

Hope it's what you need (and 'scuse my poor typing - it was late at night and I was on my iPad which isn't great for typing!)
It was a great detective challenge though!

I think you might well have got us over the line here @sandsy! I have had so many disappointments and setbacks these past few weeks that I don’t want to get my hopes up too much.  But my solicitor was very grateful for it and seems fairly confident it’s what we needed.

The challenge we have now is encouraging RSA to prioritise it! It’s not even clear which dept/role can and should confirm they’re happy to sign the deed paperwork. Usually these things involve mortgage businesses, of course, who have a dedicated discharge team! RSA aren’t set up for that. It’s currently with their company secretariat so hopefully they can either do it themselves - or decide who should!!
I’ll keep you posted :-) Thanks again so much!
