Cost to redo a 6ft x 6ft bathroom?

In a total newb to renovating, first time buyer and this will be the first big task we tackle in the house.

The bathroom in my house is 6ft x 6ft. I'm wondering what the approximate cost for a total redo would be? I want to do it on a reasonable budget, will be a pretty standard neutral bathroom. Looking to get quotes in the next few weeks so I want to gauge whether their price is reasonable before agreeing to anything.

Renovation will probably include all fixtures and fittings and installation. Pipework won't need moving. Will need replastering, and also an extractor fan fitting too.

I have a similar sized bathroom and I’m currently getting quotes for a refurb. New suite and taps, replanted and tile and new vinyl flooring. So far I’ve had 3 quotes:

    4150
    5200
    6800

So quite varied! I’m still looking into getting more quotes as I’m new to my area I don’t have any recommendations for local tradespeople. I was thinking it would be around 4000 for a bathroom of that size but I’m getting some very varied quotes!

  • We're in London. Our bathroom is 3m*2m so 9ft by 6ft. We've got a quote from Wickes for £6,500 inc VAT that includes moving the loo (apparently not as expensive as we feared, about £300), replacing the bath with walk-in shower and tiling the floor plus tiles to head height in the shower area and to waist height on the rest of one wall. It also includes removal and disposal of old suite and nice but bog standard fixtures and fittings. Buy the time 'extras' get added on we guess just over £7,000.
We had a quote from the company fitting our kitchen for £7,500 ex materials and VAT aka a quote from people who don't want to do the work.
We've got a recommendation for someone local we're hoping to get a quote from but they've got family ill with covid so we might just pull the trigger and go with Wickes. It might cost a few hundred more but I'm clueless wrt to bathrooms and my OH is self-employed so time spent project managing is time lost to paid work.

For a bathroom of that size I'd budget £5k max but considerable savings can be made with the right tiles and possibly half-tiling areas.

Thanks guys, at least I know roughly what ti expect when getting a quote! I was hoping around 4k so I'll see what we can do to save a bit. I think we were going to have it half tiled (apart from shower area of course) so this may go a little way to helping :)

I have a bathroom the same size and all quotes seem to be between £3000 to £4000 excluding the fixtures and fittings which are mostly basic.
My neighbour for same bathroom had one fitted with cupboards, inset lights, heated towel rail etc and came to £6000.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I’m doing my bathroom myself and just getting trades people in when needed.
Takes longer but can save thousands.
Depends on budget, skill level and time available.
The units are quite cheap, subfloor in my case comes to £50 and flooring, being a small area doesn’t cost much.
Plastering, plumbing, tiling and electrician, a few hundred here and there.
