Wrong gas smart meter to transfer to outfox the market

Options
Hi all can anyone help me. After reading the savings I could save on my gas and electric. I swapped from Brit Gas to Outfox the market. All was going well till Outfox told me that my gas smart meter had a Large Supply Point indicator LSP. So would not be able to undertake my gas supply as its commercial. I had the smart meters put in about 6 months ago while with British Gas. They have confirmed to me that my house is a residential property and there should be no problem with my new supplier. About 10 years ago prior to me buying my house it was used as a care home but house was never granted business use away from its residential status . I pay rates as a residential property owner. What can I do as I seem to be going round in circles . Can I have the meter removed??

I doubt that getting the meter changed will resolve your problem. You need to speak to your present supplier and ask them to make sure that the National Database (this database holds details of your address; MPRN and meter serial number) does not have a LSP tag. Out of interest, what is the size of your gas boiler? I read somewhere that there is a limit of 64kWs on a domestic supply. I assume that anything larger might result in a LSP tag.

I've just had a similar situation trying to transfer from Scottish Power (sent to them from Yorkshire Energy who went bust in December '20). Have rung Scottish Power who confirmed my meter is flagged as LSP although I am a normal residential dwelling. Could take up to 30 days to resolve they say! ScottPwr are moving me to their standard tariff on July 1st! Have moved a few times before & never had a problem before. How can these tags be applied without any double checks?
  • Update on my LSP flag. Complained to Scottish Power, and had a call back from Complaints the following day. Called back later on to say that the 'flag' on LSP was 'N' ! Am still waiting for another matter to be cleared before I speak to Outfox again. Have they misread the flag?
Will update when I get further info.

Finally had some resolution from Scottish Power. They had my gas consumption about 10 times higher. Still haven't had a proper explanation, but at least my new Tariff options are about £120 pcm, rather than £1000 pcm! Have now contacted Outfox TM to see if we can make any progress. They have assured me that the gas meter info is now OK, so have restarted the switch.

Perhaps your supplier had been somehow receiving the incorrect index from your smart meter - for example the one which shows the equivalent of energy consumed in kilowatt-hours instead of the actual volume of gas in cubic metres? This would give a reading just over eleven times the correct reading!

(I suppose anything is possible with these new-fangled smart meters)

Quite agree about the flaky smart meter situation, but I can't blame it this time, since my gas meter is still an old analogue one.
The problem seems to have been purely down to Scottish Power's system, which they eventually sorted, and the switch is now complete. The very helpful SP Complaints lady had tried to correct the problem, but the system just overrode her, and she had to refer it to the 'system people'. They actually had my correct readings - it was just how they treated them, so I suspect that they had my readings down as kWh rather than volume as you suggest.

    All's well now though.
