Returning BT YouView box

We recently dropped BT TV from our BT B/B, Call plan and TV package. We joined BT in 2015 and, being lazy, have never changed anything until now. A few days ago we received a bag and prepaid label to return the YouView box. DO WE HAVE TO RETURN THIS TO BT? I recall, and wrote it down in 2015 that we were charged £19 fot box, £30 for router, and £19 for a dongle, plus £6.95 delivery. Our feelings are that we shouldn't have to return to Bt , we should be allowed to keep or dispose of locally (responsibly of course). Can BT charge us? BT website says they MAY charge !!!

I am no expert, perhaps they have just sent that bag because I think they're obliged to offer to dispose of it for you. I use a BT Youview box that I bought from a local car boot sale, so whoever signed up for that one didn't think it needed to be returned. I just use it as a Freeview recorder, I'm not using the BT side of it, it's not connected to the internet at all.1

It's more them trying to show that they offer to dispose of it for customers. Don't worry about it.1

Today I received a letter from BT (sorry you're leaving etc). It also states in plain English. ..."If you joined BT after 13th December 2019, please send back your BT kit within 60 days, otherwise you'll need to pay a charge".
So for anyone else who feels pressured to return items.....YOU DON'T HAVE TO........unless your contract started after 30.12.19.
Thank you to all who responded to my post.0 -
I had exactly the same scenario earlier this year. I also received the bag. I got formal confirmation from BT (via the support forum) that the TV box remains mine ... indeed I am still using it and it works fine (except for Internet channels where a BT TV contract is required), including the catch-up and streaming apps.Jenni x1
