Changing Bank Accounts Name

I need to change my name on accounts with

NATIONWIDE
LLOYDS  (Although I may close this one as I don't need it for its original purpose anymore)
HSBC
VIRGIN (Mortgage & Credit Card)
NATWEST
TESCO BANK

I've spoken to some of these and they recommend going in branch to do this and have ID verified.

My question is do these banks accept walk-ins for this service?

Previously Ive "walked in" to HSBC and they make an appt for another day. As some of these branches are 15miles away I really want to try and achieve this in one trip where possible.

I know it's probably not all but it's very difficult to phone to make an appt. They just tell to go to branch who as above then made an Appt for another day.

Anyone with any experience of trying to get a there and then service in branch from any of the above? (Post lockdown so back to whatever normal is).

  • Calls or enquire online as it will vary from organisation and even branch.

For most of my local branches, as long as you go in at a time when it's not busy they have been more then happy to accept walk-ins for small things like this. Your mileage may wary, but if you're worried then I'd call the branch direct and ask them. The only time I've been asked to make an appointment when I walked into a branch was when I opened my first current account with Santander, presumably because that's a more long-winded process than "check ID, check name change document, update name".

Thankyou. I've tried to call before but never get to the branch and when I got to to go in they turned me away.

I guess it will be pot luck.
