No FENSA cert but do have building control certificate - is this okay?

**Possible stupid question alert**
Just looking through the TA6 form that my solicitor has sent me in relation to a house sale and the standard question has been asked about windows being installed since 2002 in relation to FENSA.

I personally haven't installed any windows since owning the property (bought in 2008) but i'm 99% certain that the previous owner did in 2007 when they converted the old coal house / outhouse at the back of the property into a Utility, which included installing two small windows. I've checked through all my paperwork from the purchase and was never given anything, but I do have a building control certificate for the overall coal house conversion.

When I searched FENSA's website to see if they have anything on record, it came back saying they don't, and gave a list of reasons for not finding it which included the following:
  • The job included more than replacing windows and doors
Which of course it did, because it was part of a bigger conversion. Simple question. Do I need one? Or does the building control sign off "trump" it so to speak? Obviously I didn't receive one when I purchased it but now not sure if this was a mistake.

Thanks in advance.

fensa certificate for a 14 year old window is not worth worrying about - it won’t give you anything.

    Building Control trumps Fensa.

Perfect! As I suspected. Thank you.

A bit more detail - FENSA is a scheme that permits accredited members to self-certify their own installation work for building regulations. A small handful of such schemes exist to reduce bureaucracy on modest building updates. If you have building control approval that covers the windows, you don't need FENSA because it's ultimately just ticking the same box (with regards to the windows anyway).
