    This is very straightforward.

    A agreed to sell at £X in a particular condition and should do just that.

    If A broke the car, then A needs to pay to fix the car. 50/50 shouldn't even come into it. 

    Or A needs to offer B a full refund and also as a gesture of good will offer to pay an out of pocket expenses e.g. having to cancel insurance.

    Of course B could take A to court for loss of bargain...
