Replaced my front tyre with ATS, Avon zt7, December 2019, since then I only drove 1790 miles.

The driver side tyre are now showing cracking on the side.

They were doing £26 off discount so only paid £78 for 2 tyres.

Is it a dodgy tyre they were trying to get rid of???

Is it normal it show cracking this soon, only been 15 months.

  • Does the doggy tyre bark when you go over a hump? If so it needs to be taken back to the tyre kennel.

As you have driven so few miles in the time, have you kept the tyres correctly inflated?

No, it's unlikely to be a stock clearance thing... If it was, they wouldn't be running it across every single size and so many branches...

Simple way to check - look on the tyres for the manufacture date.

One sidewall of each tyre will have a string of codes that will end in a four-digit number. WWYY - week number, year. I'd expect tyres fitted new in late 2019 to be early-mid 2019 manufacture, possibly 2018, unlikely to be much older.

Let's see a pic of the cracking...
  • Check the date on the side wall.
The cracks are they the side wall or the outer edges?
I've got cracks in my tyres two of them we were advised during a service. I think they are
dunlop sport type tyres but the cracks happen with little driving. We've hardly driven this year and
we were led to believe that lack of driving causes that not sure how true but the service garage said
it was within safe limits and did not try to sell us tyres.

It is 3619. The crack doesn't seem that bad to me, it came up on the servicing in local garage

I go to ATS for MOT so best not to cause a fuse about it.

I will see if I can upload some picture

That tyre looks as if it maybe under inflated. Have you checked the pressures?

    So manufactured week 36, 2019 - 2-8 September.

No, they really aren't anything to be concerned about... but they're not impressive for an 18mo tyre.

Doesn't look like it's been run markedly underinflated.
