Virgin Media .. TV Remote no volume control

We had a Sony TV which we wanted to wall mount, but unfortunately, Sony TV's have different mounting to other TVs, so we swopped with our sons Blaupunkt TV.
A 'normal' wall mount was purchased and the TV put on the wall.
Brilliant !! but now the Virgin remote won't control the TV, on and off or the volume.
We've tried putting the codes in several times without any luck .. is there an easy way or is a TV (about 7 years old) simply too old for the remote to control it
