LL of no fixed abode?

Options
Hi MSE community
I am about to sign a rental agreement and I realise that my LL has no fixed address. They are overseas, travelling around the world through seas.
Contract mentions address of the agency as LL's address.
But the property will not be managed by agent.
Does that put me in some disadvantage as a tenant?
Cheers

  • If you boiler breaks down who will you get to fix it? How will you contact that person?

Having a valid service address is one thing, but might not be much use if you have to send the bailiffs to find a yacht in the middle of the Pacific.

So who is going to manage it? If repairs need to be done who are you supposed to contact? If the agency can't  tell you then yes it is a problem. There may be a family member who looks after it but you need to know.
It is a strange time to be travelling round the world. People are still working overseas but they will have a fixed address somewhere

that is the concern. LL said they pay a lot of money in boiler insurance. so it shouldnt be a problem.
but if boiler breaks down, who to contact? if they are unreachable, then what?

You might need to deduct income tax at source and pay it to HMRC if the landlord has not had HMRC agree to rent payments being made gross.

How long do you intend to be there ? If the LL is travelling they will come back at some point. Could be 10 years time but if they have no overseas address makes me think it could be a lot sooner.
