Membership Fees

About 3 TV shows ago you briefly touched on membership monthly fees. Unfortunately I did not catch what it was about and have nt been able to find any reference on your website. The reason for my question is that we were unable to get travel insurance for a holiday booked in 2019 for 2020. We are both in our 70's with medical conditions. The only place I've been able to get travel insurance is by moving our current bank account to Nationwide who charge a monthly fee. Did your comment infer that there is something I shoud be concerned about. Regards Roger

If you mean Martin then good luck in gettinf a response from him as he doesn't read the responses on here and he has zero/zilch to do with the forums anymore as he sold them a number of years ago.
All I can suggest is see if the episode is on itv or even youtube.0 -
If you're under the impression that your post will be read by Martin Lewis then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed....
It's not clear to this reader what the connection is between 'monthly membership fees' and travel insurance - are you perhaps referring to packaged bank accounts, such as Nationwide's, where insurance provisions are included in a monthly bundled price? If so, some people have been able to make a case for misselling, which is maybe what you heard reference to, although it doesn't sound like that would affect you?

Are you paying extra because of your age and health?

I used to have a Nationwide account which included travel insurance, but there once you reach 70 there is an extra fee, on top of the monthly fee for the package. When I opened this account it was worthwhile for the phone insurance, car breakdown and travel insurance, but not worth paying extra for the travel or for medical conditions.
I suggest you look elsewhere for travel insurance.0 -
I believe Martin's reference was to unused memberships of things like gyms, book clubs and other organisations that got you to sign up to a direct debit, which may have been taken for years, with no benefit to the payer.
