Cat food suggestions

Hello fellow cat custodians,
The price of the cat food that my two cats - reliably - eat has gone up in price by £20.
I am sure that a lot of you will be in the same boat with recent price increases.
Has anyone a recommendation for a good budget brand alternative of wet cat food for the Purina Gourmet Chefs Collection?
It must be gravy (not jelly).
Meat (not fish).
A good proportion of solid meat (not simply a sachet of gravy with a chunk of meat floating in it - I’m sure you know the type I mean to avoid).
Ideally available in bulk boxes with online order and delivery. (My preference; not the cats 😀).
Any advice and recommendations would really be appreciated. I know you’re familiar with how tricky a mine field this is to navigate.
Many thanks and best wishes.

I was however hoping to read people’s suggestions on alternatives based on their experiences. For your information Vetshop have had inconsistent stock levels (out of stock when I last tried to order); and their prices are also increasing.Once again thank you for taking the time to reply.2

I just tend to stick with the usual Felix and sheba fish ones, with the occasional purchase of soup and other brands, fresh meat as a daily treat.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.1

I think the current price hikes/stock problems are due to a shortage of pouches, not the food itself. I'm hopeful that the prices will go back to normal soon.
Sorry I don't have specific suggestions - shopping around for the 'right' food and even paying more on occasion has always worked out cheaper overall for me than trying out new brands.1 -
I've tried a number of different brands this year for my 10 year old moggy.Applaws and Encore are expensive but good quality. It's touch and go how much of each serving my cat will eat, but he does sit by his bowl waiting to be served.I've also tried a couple of German high quality pate-style pure meat brands, MjJAMjAM and Venandi. He'll eat what he's served out of a newly opened tin, but he won't go back to eat any of it that dries out in his bowl. Before that I'd give him IAMS sachets. He would pester me for these, which suggests to me that they aren't good for him and contain the feline equivalent of E-numbers, e.g. sugars and cereals. His absolute favourite food is raw coley from the fishmonger! But I understand raw fish or meat isn't a complete diet? I do also leave out dry food for him at all times. Finally it's a bit frustrating that boxes of 12 or 24, etc, are often only one flavour. So to rotate flavours you'd need to buy three or four different boxes, at some expense.1

I bought a couple of packs of Purina Gold tins, because they're a fraction of the price of Applaws or Encore
But they turn my cat into such a pest!
Purina must be full of kitty e-numbers, it's not normal that he's waiting by his bowl so often.
I want my cat to enjoy his food, of course, but if he's overly keen then it makes me suspect the quality of ingredients.1 -

Just making sure you're aware that applaws tins and wet encore foods aren't a complete food? They're known as 'complimentary' as they don't contain all the vitamins and minerals a cat needs. If you're feeding dry or other food as well, it shouldn't be a problem, but if you've been feeding them exclusively then it's possible your cat is just craving a missing nutrient.1 -
That's a good point, Mnoee. But yes I also always have dry food out. I bought a 15kg sack of IAMS kibble a year ago and he hasn't got through it quite yet.
Another wet food I've bought before is 'Almo Nature'. I might order some more.
I'm ultimately looking for a cat food which he'll eat and won't leave most of it in his bowl, but it won't turn him into a junkie!!0 -
I give my cat grain free food as he's got very sensitive skin. Lots of the grain free brands are quite expensive, but I've recently discovered Amazon's own brand - Lifelong. It's reasonably priced, at the moment anyway, and has pretty good ingredients. I think it's made in Germany. There are other types in the brand if you dont mind cereals. Worth a try.1

Thanks, Marmaduke123, I'll give that one a go.
As I said, Purina Gourmet Gold does seem to be his favourite. But that just makes me doubt its quality. He shouldn't like it that much!0
