TV Remote Control

Options
I have quite an old Philips TV and the remote control no longer works, so I purchased an identical Remote Control on ebay. This does not work at all, have put in new batteries so it's not that. Do you think I need some sort of Philips TV Code in order to set up the remote control?

    Probably  see google for codes.
  • Have you paired the remote with the TV? If not try the following:

Re-pairing the remote control and the Philips TV

TV can be connected with another remote control. If the remote control has already been paired with another TV, the pairing method will be different from the method used if the remote control has not yet been paired (the new remote control).

The remote control is already paired with another TV (second-hand remote control) reset Philips TV remote control

To set the pairing, place the remote control a short distance from the Philips logo on the TV (about 10 cm) and simultaneously press the  (red) and  (blue) buttons. Be sure to place the remote control is necessary near the logo. In this place is a radio signal receiver and pairing can occur only with a sufficient signal level. This is a protection against accidental pairing of the remote control and the TV (these actions can only be performed on purpose). If the pairing is successful, a message appears on the TV screen about the successful completion of the pairing of the remote control and the TV.

The remote control is not yet paired with a TV (new remote control, old TV)

To set the pairing, place the remote control a short distance from the Philips logo (about 10 cm) and press OK. A message about the successful completion of the pairing.

To check remote is working open camera app on phone and look at the transmitter end of the remote whils pressing buttons on the transmitter
Assuming the transmitter is infrared, you should see flashes of light

Have you put something in front of the TV blocking the infrared receiver? I did this and it was a bit embarrassing how long it took me to work out what I'd done.

What is wrong with the original remote? Might it be fixable?
