Travel insurance payout for a group

I’m hoping someone can help with an answer. We are booking a large villa holiday for us and other family members. The booking is in my name and we are paying the money direct to the villa (the other family members are transferring us their part of the money). If for any reason we have to make a claim through our travel insurance company, will they payout the total amount we have paid regardless of the number of people going on the holiday, as the booking was made by us or will they only payout for the named people on the policy?
If they only payout for the named people, what happens to the other family members claims? As the booking would be in my name not theirs.

I would suggest they all take out individual insurance or as couples ,families etc . will make it easier to claim if things go wrong ,can you get insurance that covers Covid related claims ?
  • Yes this is what we were thinking that we’d have to do but wasn’t sure how they stand with proof of payment because the booking will be in my name. Their names are not on the booking at all. We’re not looking for Covid cover, it’s more for if the villa goes bankrupt or something like that, meaning we couldn’t get our money back from them

Yes but if you put them on your insurance you would have to name them all ,i am not an expert but it might be possible to take out a group insurance ,someone with more knowledge will be along to confirm .Make sure you pay for the villa with a credit card for the added protection.

You need to take out the insurance when you book. I would agree with Ganga that individual familys take out their own insurance. Should one fall ill or be in an accident you need cover for the other to stay with them in an hotel.
Covid cover is very expensive and hard to find because it's such a high risk and potentially high expense if hospitalisation/isolation is needed. Most that claim covid cover mean that should you get it here or have to self isolate so not go on holiday.
Also should one of you get it the whole group will need accommodation and new flights.
So it's very much about knowing what you want covered and reading the T&C;s very carefully or emailing and asking so you have it in writing.

I would advise a group policy as then you are all covered by the one  insurance for the same eventualities.

I am not disagreeing with you but what happens if one person has an accident before they all travelled ,would claiming for one person off a group policy not be awkward .

Why would it be different to one of a couple claiming on a policy or one  of a family , say a child, having a claim on a policy ?

What i was thinking although i did not say it in my post was what would happen if some of the party decided not to travel due to covid worries but the rest of the party want to travel , how would they claim?

They can't - they've decided not to travel.
