I want to get a WiFi signal in my yard and annexe. Can anyone recommend the best piece of kit to do this? I’ve read about extenders and repeaters but not sure of the difference or what would be best suited.
I can’t use a powerline adapter as a) I would like to get signal in my yard/barn and b) the annexe is not on the same electrical circuit (plus then I’d need another router).
Basically I just want my WiFi signal to be extended by roughly 50 metres.
Thanks in advance.

You can run Ethernet cable outside and then use a plug-in wifi point for it. You just connect one end of the cable to the router, the other to the wifi device which you plug into a power outlet as normal. Some caveats though - if you run outdoor network cable use weatherproof CAT6 cable, the regular isn't strong enough. A UV protective jacket is a must if the sun's going anywhere near it if its exposed (UV light destroys regular indoor network cable if its used outside). Cable is easiest if there's an obvious route (e.g. avoiding road). Otherwise you'll need some outdoor wifi which is fidly to set up e.g. http://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/23819-tp-link-cpe510kit-pnp/

Okay. So it's not just a case of buying something that plugs into a socket and the router and then the wifi signal is enhanced to cover a larger area? I didn't really want to go wired if possible, but if I did I'd need to run an ethernet cable down to the annexe and connect it to something like this? TP-Link TL-WA901N 450 Mbps Wireless N Access Point, Passive PoE Power Injector, 10/100M Ethernet Port: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
If I could get it to the annexe I'm pretty sure that would cover the yard and outbuildings as well as it's a small area.0 -
How far away is the annex from house? If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
