Tempted to buy a new phone?

Options
Hi there folks,
I have a moto G4 (2016) phone with 16 GB of storage and android 7.0 , only about 1.5 GB free space on internal memory left, I also have an 64 GB SD card over 50GB of Data on there.
I had to move a few apps from internal memory on phone to get the space I have now, but just found out I would have to format the SD card as internal memory to be able to move more apps to it, so I would have to back up the SD card first.
I have been looking at the moto G9 at Argos with 128gb of internal memory, seems a good enough price too, probably can afford the new phone but like the moneysaving person I am, a bit reluctant to do so.

Any advice to help me make a decision appreciated.

...so I would have to back up the SD card first.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to backup your SD card data anyway?

As above back up your card anyway,

Then have a good look at what is on it and does it all need to be there.

Looking at the specs of the G4 looks like it can take 128 microSd cards so that is an option

The next question is do you need the ability to take the card out or happy as it being internal.
You also want a fast card if going internal(from that link) so might need a new one depending what you have
probably £8-£15 for 64GB a bit more for 128GB (branded decent supplier not fake)

Looks like you can keep your current phone going for a relatively small outlay and a bit of work.
I would be tempted to have a major clear out make the card you have internal and see how it goes, no cost just time option.
    then reload what you need.

While doing that might also be worth looking at your use case and costs for those, that may be where you can make savings.

Then you have the shiny new phone option.
If happy with Moto then that G9 power is an option not familiar with current range.

Have a look at the specs and compare against others
I recently looked in that price range and went with a Poco X3 NCF in a 6/128 config(£164, that price quite regularly)

here are the G4, G9 and X3 for comparison,

quite a lot of other brand choices and may be worth looking at 5g compatibility as you keep your phones.

    eg. there is a redmi note 9T 5G 4/64 for  £134

for a quick look at moto offers that have been about and what people have been saying about the phones.

If you likely to keep the phone for 4 - 5 years, I suggest you get a 5G phone.
You could find Moto G 5G plus or Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite under £200

Thanks very much everyone for the replies and the in-depth information Getmore4less, still having a good think about it here, I do like my old phone only problem is, with the 16gb of internal memory I can't really have too many apps on it, unless I was to use the SD card as internal memory, and then I would have to move the apps  to the card, just wondering is there a way to make the card a default option for downloading apps rather than installing and then moving to the SD card?
I am happy enough with the camera and video option on phone, so going to give it a good think over.
    Thanks again to all.
