Hi guys, I want to apply for the HSBC account. But I don't want to close any of the accounts I have, yet.
Out of the accounts I have who doesn't do a hard search for a second account.
BARCLAYS
SANTANDER
TSB
LLOYDS
NATWEST
NATIONWIDE

One hard search every 6-12 months doesn't do any harm to your credit worthiness.0

Why wouldn't a bank not perform searches on a new customer. After all they want to know who they are dealing with.1

I think OP accepts that the new bank will perform a hard search but is looking to open a new donor account (with a bank where they already have an account) for the switch and doesn't want a search for creating that one....Thrugelmir said:Why wouldn't a bank not perform searches on a new customer. I don't have experience with Barclays (they are the one bank who won't open an account for me, so I've given up trying) but the rest all perform hard searches when you open new current accounts, even as an existing customer. If you're lucky NatWest/RBS will even give you 2 searches

But as above, unless you have an important credit application coming up in the next 6 months, then an extra hard search won't be the end of the world.

The experience I have is that Lloyds do not credit search for a second account and neither do Santander1

None. Only Monzo or Starling if you don't ask for an overdraft.Others have said Halifax (so possibly Lloyds too) but I've seen zero evidence of this1

Having had a quick look over my past Experian reports there's no evidence on my files that a second search was performed after I opened my second Lloyds current account, so you might be onto something there.TriangularPrism said:The experience I have is that Lloyds do not credit search for a second account and neither do Santander
As for Santander I've had a search for every account I've opened with them, but I didn't apply for my second account whilst I still had the first, so that could be why. I did count as an "existing" customer however as I still had valid online banking details, so I could access the new account straight away.1 -
I opened a second Halifax account (already had a joint Hfax account) for the switch bonus in July or August last year, which was almost immediately switched to Lloyds (where I already had/have my main current account) for their switching bonus, in neither case was a hard search performed.1

Same. Last summer Halifax didn't search me for opening a second account, despite warning they would I think.northwalesd said:I opened a second Halifax account (already had a joint Hfax account) for the switch bonus in July or August last year, which was almost immediately switched to Lloyds (where I already had/have my main current account) for their switching bonus, in neither case was a hard search performed.
YMMV.1 -
I've recently opened a second account with Lloyds and they didn't perform a hard search.1
