@RobieTheRobot she should also check the status of her state pension entitlement. At age 54, there is a good chance she does not have sufficient NI years for the maximum state pension. If so, she has the option to make voluntary NI payments.
That aside, this thread would be better placed on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning board. Perhaps a board guide can move it.0 -
Of course, it is quite possible that she has some, possibly significant, pensions built up through employment or other private pensions. Equally the husband may have some. Or maybe either or both of them have a small amount in pensions or nothing at all. The OP did not state either way, so we don't know.
