If a pensioner had £19k savings but only received £140 a week pension would he be entitled to housing benefit? He’s on friends sofa at moment. How many months of bank statements for the saving ms would he have to show also. Thanks

Normally they are excluded from HB because they have more than £16,000 of capital. However if they are living alone and their only income is pension of £140, even with £19,000 in capital, they can claim Pension Credit which will provide a small top up to the pension.

Once Pension Credit is awarded they will be entitled to claim HB because an award of PC removes the capital limit.
They will also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction.
