Bereavement benefit

A general point to note is that BSP does not affect entitlement to other benefits. BSP is intended to be extra money to help with the transition from being part of a couple to being single.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Because the new member's circumstances are totally different to the OP's so it can cause confusion when reading the responses.Mickey666 said:
Not a very friendly reply to a new member. This thread is entitled "Bereavement benefit" so why should the question not be posted here? It's very much on topic.MovingForwards said:alison_manning said:I’m 55 and haven’t been able to work for the past 5years due to ill health, my husband died 18 months ago and I got bereavement benefit payment for 18 months, now that has finished is there anything else that I get to replace that . Thanks

Agreed. One is about entitlement to BSP, the other is about benefits besides BSP.wilfred30 said: Because the new member's circumstances are totally different to the OP's so it can cause confusion when reading the responses.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. I am sorry for your loss OP, at an especially tough time.
I was helping a friend with the issue recently and agree it seems unfair. What struck me is that the DWP want it both ways. If you live with a partner and become unemployed your rights to means-tested benefits will take into account their earnings and savings. As such they expect your partner to support you financially. When that financial support with taken away because your partner denies they do not treat you as a financially linked couple.0 -
Nothing to do with DWP, The government make the rules, not DWP.0
