Planting suggestions - shaded area in garden

Can the Forum give me some planting suggestions? We are in Yorkshire and have an eight foot brick wall alongside one side of our garden, this is east facing and anything planted in front of it gets no direct sunlight at all. By its very nature it is well shielded from the wind. We have various shrubs and a lavender bush planted here and also a honeysuckle growing up a trellis that do well. I would like to add some colour for the summer and autumn in the form of some ground level bedding plants and also some colourful plants and flowers that would grow to a height of about a metre. Any suggestions on what (and when) to plant would be appreciated.
