Thanks again for the help. I am still having difficulty contacting JN Accounting. Is it still possible that they can attempt to go ahead with the tax return or put me back into self assessment, even though I have requested to be removed myself? They were authorised to act on my behalf, I want to be sure that they no longer are.

You need to confirm with HMRC that you are withdrawing authority for them to act on your behalf.

You can either contact HMRC to instruct them to withdraw JN as your agent or appointing a different accountant would replace them.
For ongoing resolution, you could make a complaint with JN's regulatory body (assuming they're a firm of qualified/regulated accountants).  If they're not qualified/regulated, then there's no professional body to complain to.
