Best Epson head and nozzle cleaning kit?

Options
Hi folks,
I have a few Epson inkjet printers an xp 322 and a xp 235 and want to get a head/nozzle cleaning kit if nozzles were to become blocked, lots about on ebay, Just wondering if any of you have bought one and had success with it, if so where from?
For the long term what is the best printer to get for an occasional printer user like me, usually more of black printing than colour, but obviously would like to be able to do colour too?
Many thanks for any help.

For infrequent use, nothing beats laser.
All inkjets dry up eventually if they're not used often enough.

On Epsons the print head is in the cartridge, so if the head gets blocked you'll have to replace the cartridge anyway.  Otherwise... Isopropyl alcohol.

Isopropyl...or meths even diluted 50% with water and a syringe or dropper to apply to printhead- which is not in the cartridge as far as I know- which is why the inks are cheaper to replenish (compatibles anyway!) unlike HP printers that if not rented cost the earth! (Am I wrong and Epson printer designs have now changed?)

I find it is rare that I need to clean print heads, if printer left switched on and used once a month or more.
Laser is best for monochrome printing for many reasons but fall down if colour printing is to be of photo quality and decent colour ones cost a lot more.

Had to double check this.  The trend has been to move them off the printer and onto the cartridge.
Older HPs have print heads built into the printer.  Newer ones (maybe 2017 onwards) as a rule are on the cartridge, but some office ones don't.
Canons used to have them on the printer (I used to have an old BJC-4100 which we replace the head on two or three times over its life, until it packed up altogether), I wouldn't be surprised if now they are on the head.
Epson I already stated, I was right, they are on the cartridge.  Had many Epsons over the last 15 years or so, they were replaceable but the cost of the head was more than the cost of the printer so it wasn't worth doing.
Other brands presumably on the cartridge as well for the most part.
  • Thanks for replies, it seems then that it is the nozzles that can get blocked on the Epson if not used for a while or dodgy ink dries up.. One think I am trying to avoid is updating the firmware as usually that disables third party catridges I believe. There are lots of kits on ebay but I think probably a lot use distilled water rather than alcahol.
