Should I disclose my DMP to my employer?

For the last 3 years I've worked for a large firm in insurance and had to pass a background check for this. This included things like financial probity and from what I recall I was asked regarding previous bankruptcys/IVAs/CCJs. I was at that point in a DMP and various of the accounts had defaulted however, none progressed to a CCJ and the debts have since all been cleared during my employment. As the DMP was an informal plan rather than a formal debt solution, I answered no to that question on the background checks and it came back as clear.
Fast forward 3 years though, I've been offered a promotion but the employer has since been bought by another company and I will need to sign up to a new contract on different Ts & Cs (with the company we've been bought by albeit only some minor adjustments to what I'm currently working under). What is the likelihood that they will need to do new background checks and could a DMP (as an informal debt solution) affect these? I should mention that even with the promotion, the role is not managerial level.

They cannot find out about a DMP. However on  DMP at this point you should have defualts. They may find out about those. Possibly. (actually unlikely unless you tell them as they reaslly do not have a legimitate reason to look that deep on a credit check AFAIK).

(though they should be ok since it has gone on for so long but if they find out and you have not told them, then the trust is broken. it may be already at that stage if they find out).

Thanks. I do remember being concerned at the time about making sure I answered truthfully as it was an industry I really wanted to work in and didn't want to ruin it down line from dishonesty, and from what I remember (albeit it was 3 years ago) the background checks then only asked about bankruptcys/IVAs/CCJs.
  • If they explicitly ask about it, or if it’s part of your conditions of employment that you inform them of it then you must.
If not then there is no need to say or do anything.
