A friend has asked me for help with a desktop PC that is having problems, on boot it is reporting an Error in the SMART detection. It is an Acer PC with a 1Tb HDD. I cannot access anything in the disk (after having put it into my own PC as a second disk.

I have a spare 1Tb disk and using the Windows Creation Tool am installing Win10 onto it - but I am not an expert - how can I do this for someone else? It asks me to login to a Microsoft account which I could do but how do I then hand it over to someone else.
I *think* there is a point in the install where it reboots and I need to take the USB key out and maybe I could just shut it down at that point and then give it back and leave them to it - is that right?

Thanks

SMART means the hard drive is on the way out, or its detection thinks its on the way out.  Not gospel that's its dying, but also not gospel that it's good either.  Better replace it.

You can install Windows 10 yourself, just don't connect it to the internet during account setup.  You'll have a local account.

Another HDD?? Should always use such an opportunity to move to SSD.

I have suggested SSD to my friend - but I am giving him my spare HDD for free.

I have installed Win10 with a local account in my friends name - Thanks for the help!
