I like many have had our flights for our forth coming holiday to Boston, Salem and Plymouth cancelled - I had only book one hotel, this was in Salem as there was a specific room that DH wanted to stay in - the rate I booked was one that could be cancelled up  to 24 hours before arrival.  We were due to arrive on the 6th April, We knew in Mid February that the trip was unlikely so I emailed the hotel and cancelled the room, for which I had paid $222 deposit, I had a confirmation of my canellation and the following day another email telling me that they had not kept my credit card number and that I have the choice of a check! or a refund to my paypal account.  Obviously i asked for the refund to be sent to my paypal account, this was some weeks ago now, I have chased it twice and still not recieved it - any ideas on how I can facilitate this refund in a timely manner. Thank you

  • Can't you contact your credit card company and do a chargeback ?

unfortunatly this was booked about 7 months ago, as it was a specific room (George Washington slept in and DH is a history buff so it was a must) so I don't think I can do a chargeback

Have you checked that the hotel is currently open and operational?
Perhaps a polite nudge via the hotel's social media channels?

If you paid by credit as opposed to a debit card, the time limit to use section 75 is six years. The 120-day time limit is in relation to the voluntary chargeback scheme for debit, not credit cards

Chargeback can be used for credit cards as well as debit cards, which comes in useful for transactions where s75 doesn't apply, such as payments made via an intermediary, or items below £100....
