help with PS3 please

I'd like to buy one for my son..I've been told that the 60gb is better as it will play ps2 games. Can anyone tell me if there are any other advantages as he already has a ps2 console on which to play those. Any comments would be welcome as I am utterly useless with anything techie !! And I could end up spending a fortune without having to ! Thanks

    this lists most of the differences between the 2, but ignore the bit about the dualshock3/controller vibration (the DS3 comes out next year).

    this says the 40gb ps3 doesnt have any backwards compatibility at the moment
