Unfortunately it's a meaningless question.  What people pay will vary depending on property size, type, sheltered / exposed, latitude, insulation, number of occupants, home or away during the day, cool or tropical etc and of course the kWh and daily charge rates.

Start comparing credit tariffs with Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch', entering your annual kWh usage derived from actual meter readings a year apart. Just compare annual costs, always ignore all projections and savings claims.  Remember that separate suppliers are often cheaper than dual fuel, so do the sums for both cases.  Also have a look at the customer service ratings on Citizens Advice and the 'Add your feedback on energy supplier xxxx...' threads here on the forum.

Those standing charges are meaningless without knowing the duration of the charging period.  Quarterly?

The kWh rates aren't exciting.  For electricity I'm paying 12.11343p/kWh plus 13.2825p/day, for gas it's 2.0265p/kWh, plus 28.497p/day, all inc VAT and no exit fees.  Unfortunately those tariffs are no longer available for new customers.

More than I'm paying, but my tarriff is now 6 months in and there have been increases.

All you can do is compare to the current best buy rates for your location and useage.

My last BULB increases was in September, gas was 2.924p, Electric was 14.179p both per KwH they have now, from April increased again, gas 3.056p, electric 17.724p
PLUS standing charges increased as well, gas .316p per day and Gas 4.714p a day ( I never understood why metr had to increase as well!)

AM now looking for alternate renewable energy supplier. Bulb hasnt saved me any money in the three years I have been with them, even though they said they would be cheaper as a renewable energy resource!
If I were born five years later, none of this would have happened!!

You need to look at whats on offer, I'm sure you can do significantly better. I'm only leccy and I've had my deal since October but I only pay 12.25p/kwh plus 13p/day.
Dont believe the hype or claims - do your own sums to work out how much its going to cost, not how much you could save,

What you pay depends on where you live.  It only makes sense to compare with others in the same locale as you are.  I changed supplier in October but couldn't get the deal that @matelodave achieved.

  • Hi chaps..
I have recently moved home. (3 weeks)
my previous home was a new build 3 bed semi and been there 5 year.  From day 1 til we left we were on a scottish power variable rate. Winter months averaged £70-£90 for G+E. Summer months £40-50. I Never looked into changing our setting up a fixed DD as i would just pay bill each month whatever the reading was and always thought it was decent.
Anyways i have moved and it is a slightly bigger property from where i was (4 bed semi) (30year old)
Same amount of radiators but bigger radiators than previous. The boiler is a baxi combi and was installed in 2007.
I have switched from british gas variable  which is what i had to sign up to on moving in as british gas was the previous owners supply. I have switched to Eon and it switched over 7 days ago.  Previous owners said they spent 40 G and 40 E a month so i  signed up to Eon via comparemarket dix 1 year exclusive  recommending fixed £59 a month DD.
Smart meter isnt working after switch apparently a 1st generation meter 🤷
So trying to work out what i using  daily etc as worried bout gas from what i saw  when on the variable with British gas for 11 days. E was averging a £1 a day and G was £2.50-£3 a day and the heating wasnt on allot. 3 hours morning 3 hours evening..

I have worked out currently now i am using 5-6 m3 a day gas..
Is this normal or some thing i should  be worried about paying nowhere near  enough or is it generally allot of gas for 1 day usage?
Any advice recomendations would be great. Thanks

On the daily standing charge I assume you mean 26.61p per day and 24.48p per day respectively?

Mine on Octopus Go are electricity 14.02p per kWh between 04.30am and 00.30am (peak time) and 5p per kWh between 00.30am and 04.30am (off peak) and electricity daily standing charge of 25p

Gas 2.77p per kWh and gas daily standing charge of 17.85p
    All prices include VAT

  • Sounds like I'm paying too much
