Options
Anyone any idea how long it is taking to process claims for tax relief for working from home? It seems excessive.

Around two weeks most instances, a new coding notice is almost always issued within a month. How much are you expecting to receive?

I have received no communication to say that it has been actioned not any new coding. It is from March 2020 I completed online and they sent me a hard copy form, returned as well. I did write to them again and ask for some indication. There is a ‘form being processed since Dec 2020’ showing on the app.

Is this just the basic £6 claim which does not require validation, or are you claiming additional relief?

Yes, you will need to apply for the new tax year once it starts.

AI am making the assumption that you are PAYE as otherwise you would be claiming via SA. If you are PAYE then you will not receive the notice, your employer will receive a notice to change your tax code and you may well receive a balancing adjustment at the end of the tax year.

When you say "on the app" do you mean on the gov.uk website?

Call them for an update. Best time to phone is a  few minutes before they officially open.

Are you sure you applied via gov.uk and not via a third party?

HMRC sometimes ask for proof via post, but I've never heard of them asking you to apply via post after you've already applied online.

ETA: not sure what good it would do them mind you, since it only applies to this year for covid and you can't assign the right to a refund until after the tax year is over. But thought it might be worthwhile to check.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Interestingly, both my wife and son are PAYE and claimed this and both had a letter from HMRC confirming the new tax code.
