Royal Mail can't deliver item because there is a fee to pay?

I've had a card today and so has my daughter saying the royalmail cannot deliver an item because the sender did not pay the full postage? I have to pay £1.50. This must be a competition but does anyone know what it is? I don't feel like paying £1.50 if its a sample of something.

I have had one of these in the past and it was a birthday card. If I remember rightly £1 of it was an admin charge due to wrong stamp being used.  Would be a shame to miss out if if was a win.

I had one of these a few weeks ago. I paid the postage and it was a little plastic (cheap) thing for stubbing cigarettes out on - I don't even smoke.

I had the same a few weeks ago @wjanice121 , I contacted the company with a photo and requested a refund of the cost - they sent it via Paypal no problem.

Apparently most people had to pay £1.50 for their Free Stub Tidy, from Daily Mail. £1 would be the handling fee, the 50p would be the missed postage. If you entered this competition, then that is what it likely is.

I've had this once with Sunny D, they sent some socks and didn't cover full postage. When I contacted them, they sent a full refund of what I had to pay, including the handling fee and sent me a high vis jacket for free too.

There are also some scams about posting fake cards through people's doors, so I'd check with your local sorting office from an official number and not the number on the card, they may be able to confirm.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.
