Is there a Cheaper Alternative to HippoBag or Skips?

In our area, we have to have a skip [permit to even have one on the street, the permit itself costs £44 and then there is the cost of the actual skip which would be between £152 and £228.
We have a lawn that's been used as a dog toilet area and so it needs ripping up and some topsoil putting down so we can actually have a lawn. The lawn is only small 4m x 3m in size. Just wondering if there is a better alternative? I suppose there might be a man with a van that can come and remove it whilst doing all the heavy lifting too but not sure.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Council garden waste collection bin? Might take a few weeks to get rid of it all.
Bag it and take it to the tip.

If there is good access without any overhead wires, take a look at a grab hire company.
They pull up at the kerb side, scoop up the spoil, and dump it in the back of the truck.

I'd be vary of a man with a van. Some are genuine and factor in the cost of using the council tip as a business owner others will dump stuff along a quiet lane or similar . Not all skip firms get as far as the tip. Many dump and go. They can have a licence but not abide by the rules. If you did decide on a skip check with your local council before ordering either.
You can section a lawn into squares and turn them over, We did that years ago with no problems with the new lawn. However if it is very badly dog fouled I'd advise cutting into managable sections, bagging and booking an appt at your nearest tip.

Waste disposal is expensive. Everything ends up at the tip and the charges there are big, so any sort of commercial waste disposal is going to be above the minimum price the tip is charging them.

If you can take it to your local tip without getting charged (some areas have limited trips/year in a van, or if it's practical in a car) it's the way forward. You're paying for waste disposal as part of your council tax, so paying a hippo bag, skip, man with van etc. is paying twice.

If you can get a van in your local tip without paying, hiring a van will be far an away the best option. Where I used to live you could do this 12 times a year. In my new area, however you have to do lots of trips by car or bite the bullet on a hippo bag (make sure you use a discount code)

Not all waste ends up in landfill. Green waste (turf & topsoil) can be composted. Brick & (some) building waste, crushed and recycled. Done properly, not much needs to go to landfill.

My council will not take soil in the garden waste bin, only plant matter, so it is worth checking before loading your bin up.  I found a local waste contractor (W+S recycling) who charge between £40 - £70 to collect a one yard grab bag depending on content. (£145 with Hippo!) They also are happy for your to use an old builders bag rather than buy a new one. It's worth having a Google to see what is local to you.

We shifted about 30 tonnes of waste from our back garden and skip costs was going to be astronomical. We got rid of it all with 2 grab/muck away loads, in Essex it cost us £250 per load. About the price of a large skip, yet they take away 5 or 6 times as much for the same price

or if you haven’t got a lot, bag it up and the tip (may take a few trips obviously)
