Selling a property for a deceased relative in 1st lockdown been told will have to pay full monthly payments for the 3 months of lockdown.
Despite estate agents been closed and stay at home order in place and house could be shown to buyers.
Anyone else had this problem and advice please

    The exemption normally ceases 6m after the date of probate, what was the date of death, and the date probate or LoA were granted? Which LA is it?
    There were no special exemptions because of lockdown, so don't waste your time pursuing that.

    Assuming no-one was living in it, you should have be entitled to an exemption from when the occupant died until probate was obtained and potentially for six months after that

  • Thanks for replys we had time before probate and the 6 months after we are only wondering about the 3 month of the first lockdown 2020 when all estate agents were closed and we could not physically sell the house because it could not be viewed by any members of the public or estate agents could not show the house

    Councils rarely work outside any legislation. So "extenuating circumstances" are unlikely to be taken into account. They are most likely to say they are charging CT in line with legislation 
    If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    Exactly as above: the LA has no discretion in this instance. The provision of CT-financed services did not cease during lockdown.
