    The OP went from A to B via C, his friend's place. He can truthfully tell the insurer (if asked) that his journey was direct from C to B. The previous journey from A to C is irrelevant.

    I'm unclear: were you stationary at the time of the accident? Did he come round the corner at excessive speed, lose control and cross the centre line to your side before impact? if so he has no possible defence, regardless of whether his speed was excessive or not.
    Or was this a single track rural road without clear visibility round the corner, in which case your individual speeds become the main factor?
