I'm looking for recommendations for a Mac (desk top) based personal finance software. Functions to include reconciliation and budgeting and 'connection' to my bank. Anyone using one they could recommend

I didn't realise connecting with your bank was possible in the UK. I use MoneyManagerEX, a free app available for Windows, Mac and Android. I've used it for years. I've tried other apps when they are recommended here, but MMEX is so much better and very simple to use.0

Yes, this came in with the introduction of open banking three years ago, offering secure direct API-based connectivity between authorised apps and the banks, rather than the old-fashioned screen-scraping model: https://www.openbanking.org.uk/customers/what-is-open-banking/gsmh said:I didn't realise connecting with your bank was possible in the UK.1 -
I use Banktivity (both on my MacBook and iPhone/iPad) for reconciliation. There are plans I believe to support Open Banking but I've never been interested in that so have no idea what it will allow.0

I use Banktree Personal Finance on my PC (not online). I often find when I check my account against the bank statement that there is an amount unaccounted for at the end of the month (discrepancy). The figure does not correspond to any amount on the bank statement or in my records. The number of transactions is the same on the bank statement and my records. The figure is not divisible by 9. What is the best software for allowing detective work to find the reason for the difference? Other possibilities are to add or subtract recorded amounts to or from each other to see if there are more than one transaction that add up to the difference.0

If there's a discrepancy between your bank statements and a separate personal finance tool, the prospect of this being resolved by introducing a third piece of software into the equation seems remote! Having said that, you should be able to dump everything into Excel (other spreadsheet packages are available) and reconcile there via re-sorting transactions, using lookups, etc....jsampson45 said:I use Banktree Personal Finance on my PC (not online). MoneyManagerEX is a great option for sure, but it doesn't have some important features than I've been using in Banktree Personal Finance. Time to time, I simply think about developing my own application, or hire someone for it. I've heard a lot of nice comments about this ( link here: https://www.miquido.com/ ) company. They have all kind of software developers in their team, so they can implement whatever user wants.
