Right to light and extensions.

We’re looking to do a small (2m) kitchen extension. We live in a semi-detached house and the extension will be on the side of the non-adjoining neighbour.

They have a conservatory covering most of their rear wall but they have a single half glazed external door on the side closest to us.

Does the 45 degree rule start from the conservatory or from the door? The examples I’ve encountered talk about windows so I’ve no idea if it includes glazed doors.

There is no 45 degree rule on the ground floor.

LPA’s have difference guidance on outlook, amenity and daylight so you’d need to check your particular LPA’s guidelines and specific wording. Some near me adopt the 45 degree rule for a s/s extension, others adopt a 60 degree rule and others have no rules at all and is determined on a case by case basis.

If it's only 2 metres deep the extension may be covered by permitted development.  Will that make a difference to the 'right to light' issue?
