I stalled before I was about to turn minor to major, a car bumped into back of me.

In my rash stupid thinking I wasn’t botherd as I knew it was a small bump and it was there fault.

So I carried of driving normally, 3-4 minutes later he came next to me and told me to pull over and said I should have stopped I apologised gave my details and reported to my insurance just as notification no claims, however he said he will call his insurance and police.

I made a mistake I own up that, and would not do it again, as accident was small what will police do?(Only damage was scratches to his car and mine)

The police won’t care. The other guy has your details and the insurance companies can sort it out.

He just text me saying he spoke to his insurance,  who said contact police, there’s not much and if I pay it he will not contact police because I drove without stopping.

He said he can send me quote.

I don’t want to take risk of him contacting police, that I may regreat.

He's taking advantage of your lack of confidence and bullying you. As said, police wont be interested, just tell him to go through insurance and let them sort it out. There's no need for you to have any further contact with him.

    When did this happen?
You have 24 hours to notify the police if you don't stop and exchange details at the time of the accident
Since you have now exchanged details the police are not likely to be interested.
    Do not pay him anything.
  • I've been in various situations regards a bump.

When i drove away from a bump as i knew who the guy was who tried to run me off the road (who was later convicted for attempted murder - no not on me) the police were very interested and came at me for it saying i should've stopped.
Sorry, nope, not going to happen. I don't care what the law states. I know you're very familiar with this chap, i'm aware of this chap and that's why I wasn't stopping.
They didn't care, but i still wasn't stopping.

FFWD a few years, someone bumps me and does a runner. I report to the police. They're not particularly interested. They look in to it, ask him a question, he says not me officer, they say go see your insurance.

So as far as the police go, i don't think you'll have much to worry about.

Can't you call the police yourself?  Explain that you felt scared to stop as he looked intimidating and you thought he might have done it on purpose, but that you did stop when he followed you to what felt like a safer place, then you exchanged details and now he's trying to threaten you.  Send him a message saying not to worry, you've been to the police and that you're happy for him to go through insurance.  They aren't going to penalise you for being scared of a man who has proven himself to be a bully.

And maybe add that you mentioned his attempted blackmail to the police and they will keep it on file. Might act as a deterrent and stop him trying this again.

    It happened today

Shall I say I didn’t realise the bump or I was scared to stop?

I was shocked because this is first time I stalled and someone crashed into back of me so I thought must be aggressive person I don’t want to stop for them.

I know if police do take it seriously the consequences are serious.

I haven’t reported it to police, because I’m just gone block him., if he reports it I can defend myself

I told him I stalled he’s like that’s not my fault.

It's his fault for not paying attention.

Do NOT pay, claim off his insurance for the damage he caused to your car.
