Forms to apply for probate

Hello all,
Have trawled through the Gov.uk website and read about PA1P IHT205 IHT400 etc.
Can anyone please tell me, for clarification, which forms i need if the estate is 50% of parents house, which, plus accounts, shares, totals less than the 325 plus the 175 RNRB? Do I still fill in form IHT205 as no tax to pay, and which form do I fill in to claim the additional 175000 RNRB please as I am the descendant inheriting the property? Also as it says once you have estimated value of estate you report it to HMRC BEFORE applying for probate. Seems to offer only an online way of doing this, are there form/s for this? (bit of a Luddite, prefer paper forms, so many things can go wrong with automated response!!) Will be seeing a solicitor for brief chat later this week but thought I would ask so I can get a look at the forms online and check through them first.
Many thanks.

You can download copies of the forms on the gov.uk website and also very useful guides to completion of the forms (be prepared for a paper mountain and get a good stock of printer ink in!)
If you do need RNRB then you will have to go down the IHT400 route with all the associated forms including the one related to RNRB.
The paper rather than online route is still possible (both for the HMRC forms and the Probate application) and I chose that because I like to be able to see and feel and flick back and forth when completing complex things. As I understand it they then get scanned when received the other end so are effectively dealt with digitally.

Excellent, thanks for that Poppy. About what I thought after looking through again
The IHT400 itself doesn't look TOO daunting, but haven't looked through the various associated forms yet, looks like I may need about 6 of them. Hey ho. Still waiting for confirmation/statements from a couple of places so can't start until then, been dreading this moment for months.......
Many thanks.0 -
What is the status of the other half of the house?
OK strike that I have just read your 2017 post, about winding up the NRB trust, which would indicate, that both your mother’s transferable NRB was used up, and that you own the other half of the house.
You will have to go down IHT 400 route and although there will be no IHT to pay, you may a have a CGT liability if you sell the house.
