Good morning, happy mother's day to all you lovely mums, thinking especially of Bella and Ruby's DM who will be missing her DS on this day.
Not panning out to be a good day here today, had a couple of messages already re DS and DBIL.
Hopefully catch up with you tomorrow enjoy the no cook day those who are being treated. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)12 -
Morning, Hugs if you need one, especially if this is your first Mothers Day without your Mum.
Flowers from DD1, yesterday afternoon, a delivery of a largeish heavy box from Morrison, DD2 had ordered a meal box, goodies for a Mothers Day afternoon tea, which we will enjoy later. Even had clotted cream in for the scones.
Tomorrow morning we are taking niblets quilt over to the Chapel, I am going to layer it up there on 2 tables, so packed up ready to go. I have stripped the bed and the sheets are in the washer, hope to dry them on the line, but it does not look too hopeful, in which case they will go into the dryer.
Question. If I remember rightly, someone who posts on here goes to Skipton, I have booked a 4 day break up there in May, looking for good places to eat. I seem to remember they used to go to a local pub at lunchtime? We are doing B & B, so want to eat at lunchtime, I will get filled rolls for our supper.
Supper tonight pork steak, roast veggies and chocolate sponge, we will maybe have a small blob of clotted cream on the sponge pudding.10 -
Morning all. Nowt planned today, apart from making an unnecessary journey to throw a card and present at OHs mum. Although you can argue whether it's necessary or not necessary depending on whether you're going to include mental health in the list. I'll argue, for OHs mum, it is necessary because she lives and breathes her family, or at least her children and grandchildren in a way I'm not familiar with at all. We were not a demonstrative family but we knew we loved each other if that makes sense. This is a whole new ballgame for me, I'm still not used to hearing I love you bandied about willy nilly...Anyway. I went to a GC and picked up this years compost last week ready for tomato sowing tomorrow, nice place, no fripperies involved there, no cafe or anything like that, and was what I would these days call busy but not too many people if you know what I mean. I got some thyme too for the front garden, two normal, two variegated. I'll probably put the potatoes in too because they're chitting away and it's nearly St Patricks Day.Sorry about your hands Nelski, don't know if wrist warmers would help there, even if they're socks with the ends cut off [which you probably can't do...however, I can send you some if you like..]. Happy Mothers day to those who can celebrate it, hope you have a lovely day. Sorry to those of you without, hope your memories are good.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Morning all, Happy Mothering Sunday to all the Mums. Hugs to those whose Mum has passed away, I shall keep one for myself though, I miss my Mum today
Love to anyone else who isn't a Mum, I can't leave you out.
I had a M&S flower delivery on the doorstep from DD this morning, all spring ones and the smell oooh.... heavenly, brought back memories of my childhood when flowers were heavily scented all the time. I shall see my lovely DD later.I did make my cake yesterday, at last, well I actually made 2, one extra for Dad. It's a bit dry tbh and next time I'll keep back some lemon curd for a layer in the middle. Nevertheless it's still sweet and it's cake, that'll do for me.Not doing anything remotely houseworkish today and I'll get my chef to rustle something up for tea, so goodness knows what we'll getNelski sorry your hands are poorly, hope they get better soon, I miss you when you don't post. BTW the chara is still on standby and we need you fit and well to open the spaScarlett you're a cheap guest, if it were me I'd want the works 😁 If I can't book you in I'm always ready to offer my hair cutting services. Short back and sides do you ?Right another coffee for me.Take care all, stay safe and well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11 -
Csarina It was me who went to Skipton a lot back in the day when life was different. I won't recommend the pub we used to go to most as it was taken over and went downhill! There are lots of pubs/restaurants/cafes/fish and chip cafes etc to choose from but considering some may not have survived the last year's lockdowns it's difficult to know which to recommend! The Woolly Sheep and The Castle have always been good and one friend and I enjoy Wildwood for an Italian meal but our third friend doesn't like it there so we only got there when she wasn't with us! There are many little cafes tucked away in the back streets too so you won't go short on eateries. Maybe get up the reviews on Trip Advisor to give you an idea before you go. And if you are a fan of browsing charity shops there are a lot of them there!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11

Hi everyone, and a happy Mothers Day, or Happy Sunday, whichever suits you best. I think I'm having my quietest ever as I saw DS2 yesterday when he called with DGS, and today DH has gone to help him build his shed! Still it means I can please myself what I do today. I put a joint of pork in the SC to have pulled pork later so tea requires minimal effort. I fancied baking a cake earlier but can't be bothered now, and we have enough for dessert later.TA I must apologise but I missed your birthday, hope it was good even if quiet. I used to love going to Skipton but not been for a few years.Scarlet- funny you should mention hair- I've just done my fringe, not a total disaster but perhaps ermm... a little shorter than I planned
Still , another month to go before my hairdresser can tell me off & it'll have grown by then
Nelski- hope your hands are improving. Hugs to anyone out there who could use one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)12 -
monnagran said:Happy Mothering Sunday. Not only to those with children or those with mothers still with us, but to everyone who does the mothering, loving and caring for someone or something. I think that we are all mothers at heart.
This is why I dislike the American 'Mother's Day'. I much prefer the old Mothering Sunday, even if it did originally refer to the 'Mother Church'.
Whatever, I have been told not to cook myself anything for lunch today. We can't actually meet up so I'll be interested to see what they have planned.

Rosy, must admit I was wondering about trimming my fringe. Years ago I once cut DH's hair, and he was embarrassed to go to work!Nanny, coffee and toast will do fine, and i'll even have a short back and sides!I've put my plants in and swept up a bit outside, it's raining now, just for a change. I'm now going to make a chilli to portion for the freezer, I'd intended to do it yesterday and didn't so really must do it today. I would rather sit reading all afternoon, but once I start it wont take long to prepare then it can go in the slow cooker for a few hours.I'm going to get my trusty food processor out to chop onions and make pastry for quiches, it saves my hands and is mega quick.Have a good afternoon all11

I rarely post here nowadays but Nelski the thing that really helps my pretty painful arthritic hands and fingers is my Imak arthritis gloves. They reach to the top finger joint so I can type using them and often wear them in bed. There are other brands available but they were the first I tried and have been fine for me.Warm thoughts to all here and a wish for better weather and in time a more normal life to come.My thoughts are with those mourning a family member or friend and those caring for loved ones.Look after yourselves all. That includes you Nan I'm missing our sitting on her suitcase waitng for Dr Who to come back Amy Pond!pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
