O/S Daily Sunday 14 March 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning folks.Yesterday was a very bright day, it was lovely to see so much light which does wonders for the spirit, especially as it was one year since first lockdown.DM remained in bed for her visitor, they made short work of the cryptic crossword and then just chatted for ages. I listened to an audiobook whilst surfing around. Such laziness!
I have no plans today. The weather doesn't promise much today so I'll not be going to sit in any gardens.Mothering Sunday will be sad for so many, thinking of Bella especially. My DM has always poo-poohed the materialism around the event and with her birthday being so close to it there are usually enough flowers here. I react badly to the heavily scented lilies, stocks and hyacinths, my sinuses are veryupset and painful. I've cut out the pollen from the lilies but can't do much about the others apart from open windows.I wish everyone a happy Sunday.14 -
Morning everyone
I wrote a nice long post yesterday afternoon which disappeared somewhere!
I've had a busy first week back at school - I was tired by Thursday! Nice to have some different adults to talk to. We start twice a week testing this week, so hopefully it won't cause any disruption.
Eldest DD, now in Germany not Sweden, had her 2nd Covid test on Friday which was happily negative, so her quarantine is over and she was out for her first wander round Nuremberg yesterday. It looks a really pretty city. Same as us with only essential shops open, but it was nice for her to get out. She starts her new job on Monday - I think she is in the office every day next week and then twice a week after that. A lady from a relocation company is finding apartments for her to go and view and will take her to open a German bank account on Tuesday - it's all very well organised. She is very excited to start her new job.
I'm going down to mam and dads this morning - he needs to do his banking and email to DD. I gave mam her mother's day daffodils yesterday as I called with little one. She wanted 'yellow flowers' for her mummy too and I made a card with her.
I don't really like the gifty type presents you get for mother's day with worlds best mum on them - other than maybes for children to give when they can choose for themselves.. Little one was very excited to have her homemade card to give to DD.
I'd better move as I want to clean the bathrooms and put the towels in to wash before I go out.
Hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning All
Showery this morning so the washing can go on the airers, I've discovered the time delay on the WM, it's been on the last couple of machines but I've never used it before but will definitely be using it more.
I went up to DS1s yesterday to watch the DGC while he did an emergency shift at work, the weather was glorious up there but the wind would have cut you in two. The DGC were very well behaved, DGD is really looking forward to going back to school tomorrow.
Going to DDs for my dinner which will be good, will do some shopping on the way so a lazy morning is on the cards, I have a few books to read so may get started on one of them.
Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX13 -
Good morning folks
The sun is shining here so I will make the most of it and pop out in a while. I've recently joined an online bookswap/rehoming group and there are some children's books being put out for me to collect later this morning so I can clean them up and look at with DGS. I collected a novel for myself on Friday night and then promptly had a phone call from the Library to come and collect two books I had reserved a while ago. It's a bit likes buses isn't it; all coming at once!
Had a lovely walk around a local Country Park yesterday plus a parcel arrived for me to open today, so I'll look forward to opening that. Other than that I'll be watching the rugby this afternoon and DH is cooking us Sunday lunch.
Have a happy Sunday everyone.13 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. It doesn't know what to do today, one minute sun then the next its cloudy with the ever present wind still blowing.
I had 4 cards to open this morning despite only having 2 offspring!! 3rd from DGDs and 4th from Sparkle - To my mummy on Mother's Day from the Cat!!! You can get cards to everybody from everybody these days! DD is on an early shift today but is picking me up when she finishes at 2.30. Her lovely chap and eldest DGD are in charge of lunch! It's top secret what we are having so it's anyone's guess! DD said not to be surprised if it ends up a pizza delivery!!
So a no cooking day for me, but I plan on making some soup this morning to keep me going in lunches for the next few days.
Have a good day if you can and Happy Mother's Day to the mummies. Thinking of BELLA on her first without her mum. ((HUGS)) for all in need of them and take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Happy Mothering Sunday. Not only to those with children or those with mothers still with us, but to everyone who does the mothering, loving and caring for someone or something. I think that we are all mothers at heart.
This is why I dislike the American 'Mother's Day'. I much prefer the old Mothering Sunday, even if it did originally refer to the 'Mother Church'.
Whatever, I have been told not to cook myself anything for lunch today. We can't actually meet up so I'll be interested to see what they have planned.
Gers, your mother is an inspiration. As are you, you lovely daughter.

Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. It's fine and dry here but cold, but I've got some plants to go out so I'll put my coat on and put them in.We went out yesterday to a local shopping centre, I thought I'd shop at Sains for a change, but the queue waiting to get in was massive, and I didn't want much, so we walked to the M&* further down but there was a good sized queue waiting there.. We thought we would go to the large Tosco a few miles away, but again they were queueing to get in. It kept raining as well, short sharp showers so we went to a L*dl nearby instead. At least we had a bit of a drive and saw some car parks. I was starting to wonder if the supermarkets were giving stuff away when I saw the queues, though I know they have to limit numbers. Not a lot going on today, I'll put those aforementioned plants in and just potter.Nanny I'll be down tonight, thank you, toast and strong coffee will be fine for breakfast - hope you've booked me in at a hairdresser!! If only!!There's another 5 weeks till our hairdressers in England open, Lord knows what I'll look like by then., it's just as well we can't go anywhere. I won't take the risk of doing it myself, I've cut my own hair before, never again. Hey ho, it's a first world problem.Glad your DD is all right DP1, wonder when you'll see her again.Thinking of our poorly and sad people, and anyone struggling with life problems - take care folks14

Morning all
Bright and sunny here but very cold, I am waiting for OH to get up and then I will strip the beds and get them on a wash. DD still in bed too so its just me and the dogs up so a peaceful cuppa is being had.
Happy Mothers day to all our mums on here and hugs to those missing their mums, thinking of Bella today xxx
I went to pick the click and collect yesterday from Mr A and the queue was right around the carpark and it was raining, I did feel slightly smug pulling up and waiting for my order to come outI went from there to Mr L where it was Polish week and got some nice bits, herring with dill and lemon, garlic sausage and pork with rice and cabbage in a jar amongst other bits ! OH is very excited as he loves food like that.
Today I think we will go for a walk and car picnic and then dinner tonight will be a pork fillet which I will marinade in a hot sauce and do with rice and peas so no effort really.
Nels Ouch to your poor hands xxx
Hope you all have nice days xx12 -
Hi everyone,
Happy Mothering Sunday everyone, Monnagran I too prefer the old-fashioned monicker, it is far too Americanised now. I used to have a running joke with dad that Father's Day wasn't traditional so he wasn't getting a card or present from me! Anyway, I have flowers from Laura although it becomes different when your own child is a mummy I think. Whether I will hear from Chris is a moot point although I spoke to him yesterday and we talked about possibly meeting for a walk tomorrow.
Brian came back from London after getting their house ready to go on the market, it looks very nice and means that they will probably be with us a bit longer so that viewings can go ahead unhindered (and without the house being messed up by a mini-tornado). Instead my house is being taken over by toys.
I don't have to cook tonight, Brian bought a restaurant meal from Rogan at Home so he will deal with that, hopefully it will be delicious, Steve and I had a lovely stay and meal at his L'Enclume restaurant for our 40th anniversary.
