Bathroom Replacement

Hi

So I was in need of a bathroom replacement and as of September 2020 I had chosen a plumber to do the job.

He gave me a quote.

We agreed that I would source the products as I knew I could get good products for cheaper.

He advised of a date when I asked and gave me a two week slot in November 2020 started 16th.

He did as much as he could (apparently) at the time and left me with a functioning bathroom. However, there are several outstanding issues within the bathroom which is was aware about when he left at the end of the two weeks.

Fast forward to January 2021 and he advised on the 8th that he had been in receipt of the product that he was in need of to finish one aspect of the job. I didn't hear from him until I contacted him on the 26th January 2021 advising of a smell when I was showering. I've also noticed another issue that's arose since he left which is the seal coming away from the bath.

Now we're in March 2021 and I've still not heard from him.

What should my next move be in this instance, and since he hasn't provided me with a new Quote since October 2020, what rights do I have on refusal to pay the new full amount?

Your account is missing some information that's needed in order for people to advise.

What was the value of the original quote, and what did it include?  What's been done to date and what's been paid?  What work is outstanding and what amount of payment is outstanding.

So the original quote was £4445.41 which included everything from products to building materials and his labour costs which amount to £1750.
    I paid a deposit of £300.
There hasn't been a new quote so I don't know how much is outstanding. I would guess in the range of £3000.

The bath has been fitted, but the seal has broken. Shower and extractor fan replaced. Radiator fitted. Floor and walls tiled, I painted the rest. Basin and toilet put in but not sealed.

Outstanding work: pipes need covering, ceiling has holes and is in a state that needs fixing that he caused. The lights need replacing. He needs to fix the seal around the bath and fit the front panel, see why there is a smell when I have my shower on and needs to fix the seal on the shower screen that he damaged due to cutting it. He needs to remove the old cable to the fuse box in relation to the previous electric shower. He needs to put a skirting board around the wall which is showing a couple of holes. Finally he needs to fit the bar across the floor from the bathroom tiles to landing carpet.

    Hope this helps.

I'm confused. You originally said you bought all the materials yourself, so of the £4445, the amount due to the plumber is £1750, which you've identified as his labour charges.  You've paid £300 deposit so surely the amount owed to the plumber is £1450 once he's completed the work.  Where does £3000 outstanding come from?  Why do you need a new quote, when surely this is a continuation/completion of an existing job?

Whatever the numbers, if you've only paid £300 so far, at least you're in a decent position.  If he wants the balance, he'll have to complete the works.  Write to him to say that if he doesn't respond with a reasonable programme for completing the works, you'll end the contract and engage another plumber to finish the job.

Sorry, I'll try and explain slightly better.

He gave me a quote of 4445.41 (it was around 2000 less than wickes so..). I didn't like the price of the bathroom fixtures so I sourced them myself. Due to this, I can guess at what the remaining balance is, but I've not got a revised quote/invoice since I sourced the bath etc myself.

So I'm guessing minus the bath/screen/basin/toilet and 300 deposit that the remaining balance is approximately 3000, which includes labour cost of 1750, and meaning the rest of the cost is approximately 1250.

If that makes any more sense.

    Does a plumber do these?
