Barclaycard deal ended without warning

Hi. In Oct 2020 my 0% deal with Barclay card ended. I recieved no warning or email and yes stupidly didn't check Septembers statement in detail. I've been building a house so I had other priorites going on. To make it worse I've just discovered I've been paying interest since Oct. Barclay's say they emailed me in June 2020 but I have no email (all the others yes) from June. Are they obliged to write to me by snail mail, have I got a leg to stand on in trying to claim back my interest? I would've paid this off in full or at worst set up another transfer deal. TIA.

No legs at all, unfortunately.
You need to start checking statements. They contain all sorts of useful information regarding rates, limits and transactions.7 -
Surely they are obliged to contact me inadvance other than a small line on a statement?

They're surely not.8

When you take out the transfer you know the end date of the 0% period. It's also listed on every statement with the balance and end date. That you didn't notice is unfortunate but not a chance you would be able to get back any interest as it's nothing to do with them. Also they send more than one automatic reminder when your deal is ending - it seems they send one 3 months before the date and a second one in the month before the deal ends looking at my email history. Personally I always take the debt, divide by the number of months on the deal and set the DD for that (adjusting up if I do another transfer) so I know the money will be paid off, I have it all in a notepad on the computer with every date I need to change payments to clear a balance ending or whatever. It's your mistake unfortunately. There was also no guarantee you would have got another balance transfer so that's a side issue, nothing to do with them.1

As I said I was building a house and using several cards to help spread the load, no idea how I missed the Barclays one as I know the dates of all the others. I didn't receive any warnings the deal was ending. Further more i can find nothing on any of the statements other then the September one (a tiny bit in blue among other blue letters and numbers), prior to the first charge.

Doing other things isn't a reason to miss something like when a deal is due to end. I can imagine you've been really busy, spinning lots of plates, but sadly this one has dropped to the floor and smashed, and there's nothing further you can do on this occasion. It's a learning for any future (or any existing) promos that you have, to ensure you keep a note of when they're due to end. Hopefully you can settle the balance quickly in order to reduce your ongoing interest charges.Theshipscat said:As I said I was building a house and using several cards to help spread the load6 -
Do you check your spam emails? If it's something like my gmail I often get emails with "0%" in them being flagged as spam.
Other than that, surely the minimum payment amount would have changed significantly once the interest started being applied? On 0% it would have been about 2-2.25% of the remaining balance, and then bumped up to 1% + whatever hideous interest rate Barclaycard have you on, assuming it's about 25% that's an extra 50% ish on the minimum payment requested.

For future reference I'd suggest making a note of the expiry dates of the other 0% cards that you have and adding them as a reminder a week or two beforehand in Google calendar so you can deal with them.
1 month in from the interest being applied you might have a chance, 6 months later when every statement in that time will have shown how much interest you are paying that month I wouldn't expect any but I may be wrong.
Cards seem to be better now but I remember one with Tesco a few years back when the 0% rate wasn't flagged on the statement as ended. It was flagged the previous month but not when it finished. At the bottom of each statement now it shows the rates applicable and the dates they expire so there is no reason to miss them.
Checked my Barclaycard and that shows interest on the front page of the statement so it will be hard to argue you didn't see that for 6 statements.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.4 -

I have them both in my inbox. In regards to your statements, the site is playing up at the moment so I can't see exactly where but there is 100% on the left hand side, I think of the second page, of the digital statement PDF, a summary of each balance transfer you did with the current balance and end date.Any which way, you are not going to get money back from not checking your statements / balance offer details1

In my experience, Barclaycard are one of the easiest cards I've had to keep a check on. As others have said the details, including end date, of any balance transfers are itemised on every statement I've had.2
