Why am I receiving a cheque from my bank inline with past bank charges?

Options
Can anyone please shed any light on why I have received a cheque for unfair past bank charges?
I recently received a letter from HSBC informing me things had changed inline with past bank charges and although they were informing me it didn't affect my original claim back in 2017 so I wouldn't be entitled to any refunds however, today I received a cheque for £149 against an original claim of £4600.
Is this an attempt by HSBC to fob me off with a small payment so I don't apply for my original claim again?
Also if I bank the cheque am I agreeing with the payment as being correct and final against my original claim?
Appreciate any feed back
Thank you
Mark

No, banks regularly undertake what’s known as ‘bank-led remediation’ where either they or the regulator have identified issues in the past and they will pro-actively contact and compensate customers accordingly, provided there is no outstanding debt. It’s just coincidence that you’ve tried to complain about your fees previously. There will be people who haven’t previously complained getting similar letters through.

These things usually aren’t negotiable either so there’s often little point in complaining as they are often for a defined period and are calculated accordingly. There’s nothing stopping you complaining further, of course, but set your expectations for further redress to zero and you won’t be disappointed.

My self and my husband, have just received 3 cheques from HSBC’s, relating to  our account which was in Collections/recoveries.  Just receive a total of just short of 1400 pounds.

You shouldn't be receiving anything for "unfair" bank charges.   Does it actually say "unfair"?

You cannot "claim" again. That is done and dusted.

Also if I bank the cheque am I agreeing with the payment as being correct and final against my original claim?

Your original claim is closed.   This is different.

Appreciate your reply and it doesn't say "unfair" but it must be otherwise why would they refund my charges and interest?
While I understand it has now been and gone but is it worth a shot

Something doesn’t have to be unfair to be refunded. There could be a myriad of reasons they’ve refunded, many of which could hinge on something as trivial as not being able to evidence terms & conditions for certain accounts for a certain period to the FCA so they’re pro-actively having to refunded affected accounts.

as you’ve been told and have sort of acknowledged, your original issue and this are completely different and won’t have an impact on your original complaint so set your expectations to zero and you won’t be disappointed

The Government did not close anything.   The courts did.
