does windows 10 s mode need any other virus protection?

This is the question my aunt has asked me about her laptop. She has Windows 10 S mode and has only been using the security that comes with Microsoft's security.
She was about to do some online shopping when a window popped up, claiming to be from Microsoft - you know the type - warning: trojan - click here to return to safety. She pressed the esc key, didn't click anything on screen, but is now wary of doing online shopping with the laptop at its present state.
Does she need to install any other protection?

What online shopping site did she visit?  Did she mistype the site name?  Did she click an Email attachment/link?
Extra web protection can be added by installing Mcafee Webadvisor but this (and any apps) are only available in S mode from the Microsoft Store.  This protects people from visiting dodgy sites if they accidentally type the wrong site name or click on adverts/links.

She was using bing, typed in Asda in the search bar, then results appeared. Then the window popped up.
