I drive our car, more than my husband and always have done.
The policyholder is assumed to be the main driver of the policy. Named drivers are secondary.  Technically that's fraud when being asked the question as to who the main driver of the vehicle is.

This is false. There is no reason why the policyholder has to be the main driver. If the insurer wants to know who the main driver is (and not all do) it's down to them to ask a separate question about it.

Or I suppose they can mention it explicitly in the assumptions - like Direct Line who say in their assumptions "you or your spouse is the main driver of the car"... Many if not most insurers actively don't care who is the main driver so far as husbands and wives are concerned.

Life's not fair, but insurance is black and white. OP you chose not to have your own policy and throwing your own toys out of the pram due to this. You've saved on premiums for not having your own policy, now your complaining. You can't have your cake and eat it.

However some insurers do accept named driver discounts Direct line, aviva. but shop around
