Window scratched by window cleaner

Thank you very much for your input everyone. This is really interesting (and also reassuring to know it wouldn’t be horrendously expensive to repair/replace if need be).

The window fitters were meticulous in cleaning the windows after they were fitted, and I was extremely careful in inspecting all the windows (they asked me to sign some documentation saying that the work was completed to my satisfaction, so I spent a long time checking all the window panes and sills). This damaged area is so obviously visible  even from across the length of the living room, I really can’t see how it could have been there since the window fitting without me noticing!

Since it’s a first floor flat the window cleaners typically use a long pole. I wasn't at home to watch them this time, but have never seen them put a ladder up to the window so I doubt they would have used a scraper, especially as there wasn’t any stubborn muck for them to remove.

    How very strange indeed!

    Hi,
    looks worse close up.
If they are established they may have insurance for this kinda thing, so could have a word with them.
Depending on size, a replacement unit might not be too expensive and could be fitted from inside.
Reminds me of that awful movie from 1996 ..

I heard that baking soda toothpaste might work on those scratches!

This would be such a good idea, sadly the damaged window is at the front of a square bay window with weird dimensions that don't match any of the more standard sized windows in the flat. May have to give the baking soda/toothpaste thing a try!
  • You will not polish that out...

'Least not without the proper paste and tools.
