If the OP is still around - it would be helpful if you could get a copy of your credit reports. You’d then be able to confirm whether or not a credit search had actually been carried out on that particular day - you may have been caused a lot of anxiety for no reason.

 

If a search had been performed, then the report will also name the organisation that performed it, which would be interesting to know.

I'd also like to establish definitively which CRA is used by Carphone Warehouse / Vodaphone.

This is not trolling, this is explaining the problems with the myth of the credit "score" - the Experian score of 999/999 indicates the person has a perfect credit record so should never be refused, the fact an application was refused shows the score is meaningless. It is important that people understand how the credit system works in the UK so they are best placed to get the credit they want and to avoid wasting time (and potentially money) on things like the CRA paid for services.
