Garage passed my MOT with no indicators

OP
I hear you but count yourself lucky as some may have given you a good fight and lied about everything. IMO it could have been intermittent. They replaced the stalk FOC and you have working indicators, etc and a new mot.
It is your choice but if I was you I'd use my time to rest, enjoy or do other things. Before I go, what are you hoping to get out of them if you do take it further?1 -
Just ask yourself two questions:
1/ Is it even remotely possible that they are telling the truth and it was intermittent and was in fact working at the time of the test?
2/ If you believe that the answer to Q1 is no, can you prove this?0 -
Reinforces my opinion of how useless the big chain garages are. On most cars the hazards working does not automatically mean the indicators are.Which is why I DIY most jobs and use a trusted independent garage for anything else.0

Failed on Indicators & hazards not working
Hazard switch replace. Tester just presses hazard button. Ah all fixed.
Last time I had a MOT, that is how they tested the indicator (bulbs) if they work under hazard switch then they are OK.
When you check the MOT guide.
There is not a mention that they need to check that the stalk works...

Looking at the forums for the Aygo/C1/107, problems with the hazard light switch and/or the indicator stalk not working seem common, not using the vehicle for a while previously is frequently cited as the contacts have a tendency to corrode. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that both switches had an issue and that in fixing the hazard lights the garage also assumed this had fixed the indicators. The recommended DIY repair for the indicator stalk is to operate it numerous times in the hope of breaking the corrosion. If both switches were faulty I guess you could say you've had a bit of a result as you've only had to pay for one switch.0

My cars indicators stopped working, as I wasn’t driving the car I left it till the MOT was due, when I arrived at Mr clutch I made them aware of the issue so They could investigate the issue and advice my of any other problems. I was told that the car passed its MOT except on indicators and apparently the hazards were also not working, I was unaware of the hazards.
I was told that fixing the hazard would fix the indicators, agreed to go ahead and the hazard switch was replaced costing me £109.50 the car was then retested and passed. I collected the car but as I drove away and came to a roundabout i found out the indicators have not been fixed, I immediately turned around and went back to the garage. I asked why have I been charged for work that hasn’t been done and how has my car passed an MOT with no indicators, the manager said he didn’t know as it wasn’t him!! I left the car with them and received a call 4 hours later telling me the indicators had burnt out and required a new indicator stalk, I again said that clearly you didn’t check my indicators and just assumed the hazard would fix the problem and I assume you didn’t carry out a proper retest. Again the manager couldn’t answer, they have agreed to fix the new stalk free of charge but that’s not the point. I complained to their head office as I’m unhappy they returned my car with no working indicators yet I have a passed MOT.Head office have come back to me and said my indicators were intermittent and that’s how it passed, I find it impossible to believe that the only time my burnt out indicators worked was during the MOT retest!! It’s just not possible.
how can I take this further? I have replied to their head office and confirmed i do not accept their report and it sounds like a cover up.
my car is a 61 plate Toyota Aygo
sorry it’s long!
Any complaints to a garage or head office or MOT inspectorate on a car that now has it's MOT will be tossed into the nearest dustbin, as no one is going to waste their time investigating the testers position that the indicators worked when tested and the fault must have been intermittent as this cannot be proved either way0 -
