Old Style Daily Friday 12th March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning everyone
I can't sleep so I thought I would start the thread. My mind is racing because I received some really bad news last night about my beloved sister. The hospital rang her yesterday to say that unfortunately they had looked at her scans again and the cancer has spread. Her diagnosis is terminal and they estimate she has about 18 months to live. She has been amazing and told me off for being upset as she wants to carry on living her life as normally as she can for as long as she can. I am absolutely devastated but have pulled myself together for her sake. Just hoping for a miracle really.
Thank you everyone for wishing Phoebe a Happy Birthday. She had a lovely day and really loved all her presents and cards. Lilly and Harrison came over and then Jemima and the grandchildren popped in as well to give Phoebe her presents. I was a bit 'peopled out' although it was really lovely to see everyone.
The diet has taken a real pounding this week as you can imagine but I am not worried about it. We are having shopping delivered this morning and I have made sure to order lots of salad veg, fruit and fish so I am going to be back on the wagon asap. I am very tired of having 'Winter' food so even though the weather isn't cooperating, I am going to be making lighter dishes this week so I can pretend Spring is here.
Today I am going to be mostly knitting a carrot sleeping bag for an Easter bunny. I am making it for my sister as she loves soft toys and plushies. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx13 -

Morning folks.Early on the sun was streaming and the day promised much, now it's all dull and threatening much too.Dumpling - I'm so sorry to read the dreadful news from your sister, it's a huge shock after getting such hopeful news earlier on. I know that the care she receives will make it all as comfortable and pain-free as possible. My thoughts are with her and all your family.Yesterday DM was determined to get herself up and doing some painting, she managed about half an hour or so of faffing about with her new paints and brushes. It took a huge effort to get back to bed, she is really weak and frail but, from the neck up looks fabulous!I'm going out shortly. I didn't manage to go out yesterday as outside just wasn't inviting enough and, to be blunt, I'm damn lazy most of the time.
Today we have some loosened restrictions about meeting people, just not what we actually want which is to sit in a cafe or restaurant or coffee shop with friends. It'll come, the race is almost won.
Happy Friday to everyone.13 -
Morning, hugs to anyone who needs one.
Dumpling, I am so sorry to hear about your sister, such shocking news. It is very brave of her to want to carry on as normal. Prayers are with you all right now.
Well the gas cooker arrived before the earliest time we had been given and was up and running within 20 minutes, very efficient and pleasant lads. When the gas level was checked the chap must have switched the boiler to constant to check the gas flow and forgot to switch it back, I woke at 2am, sweating, put my hand on the rad..........hot!!
No a very nice morning it has been wet. Towels in the washer was hoping to get the towels on the line, will see whats its like when they are ready to go out.
Just has a delivery of flowers from DD1, she warned me they were coming, my favourite lilies, hope they smell, I love the scent. DB is not so keen.
No gardening for DB today, the ground is far too wet, he did manage to get preservative on the fron of the shed yesterday.
Supper tonight is smoked haddock, poached egg, bread and butter.10 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and blowing a gale again im getting a bit fed up with this weather !! The hedge men could not come yesterday as the weather was too wild and they did not want to be up a ladder with a chainsaw (understandably) so that has been put off till August now till nesting season is over.
Nothing exciting on for today, I have got a wash on but that will have to go in the TD, the dogs will need a walk and the house a tidy, I have got to finish the click and collect order for tomorrow as well.
There was a house fire locally and one house is completly burnt out the people got out with what they were wearing and that was it so I shall have a look through my wardrobe and see if there is anything I can donate there are things in there I have never and will never wear so would be happy to pass them on.
Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer ater this.
Dumpling I am so sorry to hear about your sister I know how shocking it is to get such news, I am sending massive amounts of hugs and love to you all xx
Happy Birthday to our Dear TA hope you have a lovely day xxx
Happy Birthday to Bellas dd as well xxx
Have good days all xx13 -
Morning all. Dumpling, you must be really devastated. You and your sister, and all the family, have a hard road to travel, but you will get through by supporting each other. You know that you will have all our love and support.
Happy pumping Hester.
Happy packing bella.
Happy Birthday TA and bella's DD. Hope you are both spoiled rotten.
Gers, it's the little ordinary things you miss, isn't it? As you say, meeting friends for a coffee and chat doesn't seem anything special until you can't do it. Hopefully soon!
Nothing of any note happening here. I've knitted the first 30 Easter chicks ready to have their creme eggs inserted. Only another 20 to go.

Morning all, the sun is shining again, but it won't last I don't think. I was confused this morning ( doesn't take much these days ) as there are 2 thread going 😵. I hope my post makes some sense, I'm having one of those days as I had a terrible sleep last night. I managed about 3hrs in total and I'm shattered again. I also have very itchy eyes which are driving me nuts so I'll be trying to keep off the laptop and any reading today. Think I'll try the cold tea bag treatment.I have an Iceland delivery coming this morning so I'm waiting for that, then it will be finishing off my tasks left over from yesterday if I feel up to it. Mr Fix It is having a set too with Alexa, she doesn't seem to know much these days, I'll have to break them up in a minute, he's taken to calling her names nowWe had a few calls from Dad yesterday about his new stairlift ( fitted yesterday ) so Mr Fix It had to pop up and sort it out. Seems he was pushing down when he should have been pulling up and not keeping his finger on the button long enough, technically minded he's not ! If I can't reach him he'll be like Robin the frog sitting half way on the stairsTA happy birthday my lovely. Hope you have a lovely day, it calls for plenty of pampering........ and cake 🎂 but NO Friday Tidy !!Dumpling so sorry to read about your dear Sis. Another one hoping for a miracle for you here. In the meantime I shall send you all big cwtches.Scarlett I hope DS2 is ok after the accident, whiplash can be painful, poor car though.Bella happy birthday to your DD 🎈Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13

Good morning all, blowy, but bright and sunny spells. Off to the market soon. I rather dipped out of life yesterday, did lots and lots of minor chores off my lists, but slopped around in PJs and then set to did a deep condition of my wayward hair and cooked a nice meal. Didn't go out or post here or phone anyone, feel more refreshed today. Aches and pains almost gone too. More bad news confirmed last evening BIL is likely only to have a few more days left in this life.
Happy birthdays to TA and bella's daughter, hoping that you have had a better night AOD and so very sad to read about the new prognosis for your sister, tough times to be got through for you all. Gers pleased that your DM managed to do a little painting it must be so hard to watch her fading away,
Hugs and spoons to all, hope you can have the best day possible. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11
