Gmail "promotions" notification issue on Android phone

If I get an email from Freecycle, I get the notification sound just as with any other email, although for some reason Freecycle emails are always labelled "promotion". However, when my wife gets an email from Freecycle, it appears in her inbox, labelled "promotion", but she doesn't get the notification sound! Can somebody please tell me what we need to do so that both of us get notification sounds with incoming "promotion" emails?
And while I'm at it, what actually determines whether or not an email is a "promotion"/

Have you set up Gmail differently? Sounds like your inbox is set up to view all emails while your wife has separated her inbox into different categories social, promotions etc. Check inbox categories in settings
Googles AI will determine categories."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson3 -

Thank you. When I go to my Gmail on my laptop, I see that unlike the above, "promotions" are hidden under both of those list headings. But the more I think about this, the more I realise that we need to check further that the issue is in fact confined to emails from Freecycle. Next time we get one from there, I'll double-check what the difference in presentation actually is between the two phones.Stand by for an update later today (hopefully) ...We're all doomed0

Nope, when a Freecycle email comes in, it shows in exactly the same way in the inboxes on both our phones. Every setting seems to be the same on them both, yet while my wife gets the notification sound on other emails, including some labelled "promotion", she still doesn't get it on ones from Freecycle!I guess we now accept that the situation's due to alien intervention, about which we can do nothing ...We're all doomed0
