I  was really looking for advice on the different types of electric heater, not on the cheapest central heating or whether I should be using them or not or even how much it's going to cost.  I don't really want storage heaters.  Electricity is cheaper than the solid fuel I'm using at the moment so I'm happy to go with that.  I was hoping someone on here might be using them.
Sorry if your looking for someone on here that is using expensive electric heaters?

Then probably not. As this is a money saving site. Not a throw all your money in an open fire site?

But you seem inclined with portable heaters as electric is "cheaper" than coal, so get a few of these or similarand use as required.

Put a few around your rooms and use when you are in them. Buy a good electric blanket for bed at night. Dress warmly when required and use immersion heater when necessary. Is it on a timer "recommended"

2000w heater at £6:50 costs the same to run as a £100 2000w panel heater?  :s

  • Seriously, have you thought about moving? Your present situation sounds uncomfortable, with no means of heating the house economically and conveniently, and uncooperative neighbours. Will it be viable in the long term? You might be able to get somewhere warm, comfortable and convenient, although I appreciate you may not want to leave your village. Have you got family/friends to discuss all the options with?

Moving cost a small fortune!  I'm not poor but I couldn't afford to move house.  I live in Cornwall where housing is incredibly expensive and I would only get something similar for the money.
I'm sorry I came on here now for advice as I have actually sat down and done the calculations.  The cost of running a storage heater is hardly any less than an electric heater.  I have a maths and physics degree and heating was one of my specialities so I'm not guessing or just assuming.  I have done full costings and my electrician is right. He's in the buisness 7 days a week and is more up to speed than me but I can still do the figures.  My energy supplier no longer offers the economy 7 tariff as it's no longer all that economical.
Thank you to all those who gave genuinely helpful advice.

It’s getting to the point where someone needs to ‘recommend’ those heaters beginning with an ‘F’ or similarly the ‘R’ ones. Nothing less will apparently suffice.

No problem. Advice and expertise is given freely here. In an effort to help anyone with genuine questions/problems.

If you have done your costings and decided on appropriate heating that suits you then good.

Apologise, if you feel sorry for asking here for advice here, that perhaps did not agree with your own calculations.

Hope all works out well with your new electric heating. And you have a warm house.

Please can you share your calculations with a dunce like myself so that I can understand why I'm so mistaken and can start mending my erroneous ways?

I never even thought of going there, as the op has decided.  :s

"I have a maths and physics degree and heating was one of my specialities so I'm not guessing or just assuming.  I have done full costings"

And the Op has made their mind up after doing the calculations?

Anything is better than slugging coal bags into the house?

OP, you asked if anyone on MSE has experience of electric heating systems and there is someone in this recent thread who does (and it's positive although they point out it's also more expensive).

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2146737/pensions-planning-the-number/p187

If you want more information on Fischer heaters then as well as the thread on MSE, there is a lot of discussion on Facebook, mostly negative but not all.  Purchase and running costs are discussed at length.

I currently have storage heaters and they are OK, but the house is hot in the morning and cool at night and we need supplemental peak rate heating when it's cold outside.  Having said that they are over 30 years old and modern ones should be better.  We use a couple of cheap oil filled electric heaters and they heat the rooms well.
  • Your problem is similar to mine and in this case, you only have one option left and that is an electric heater. But of course, they are very expensive on the bills.

I am using a solar heater and it performs really well. For many people, it does not. This is because the size of the room. If you have small to medium sized room, solar heaters are the best option you have.

I've no idea what these "solar heaters" are that the immediate previous post is talking about but I wonder how @mrsyardbroom is getting on?

I'd appreciate her comments on my calcs here and hope she can point out where I've gone wrong.
